  2. Make sure the plan meets the minimum requirements at MSU (students) or DOS (J-1 scholars and J-2)

----------The following waiver application steps are for students only-----------

  4. Apply for a waiver of the mandatory policy at the Aetna Student Health website.
  5. If your waiver application is approved, you will receive a refund of your Aetna Student Health insurance premium.

Bring insurance from home country

You may bring a health insurance policy from your home country as long as it meets the minimum requirements. However, reimbursement can be a potential problem if you get a larger bill. You will be asked to pay for your medical bills in the U.S. on your own first, and file a claim later when you go back to your home country and wait for a while to get your money back.
