Are you graduating? OISS explains the myths of OPT applications

Posted By: OISS    Published: Monday, 26 Mar 2012

Attention F-1 students:

If you are graduating this semester, now is the time to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) (PDF)*. The number of applications rises dramatically in the spring, leading to longer processing times. Some students believe that it is better to apply later to have more time to find a job. This is not true. Read our blogs to learn more about this and other OPT Myths (misconceptions).

Myth 1: I must have a job offer to apply for OPT
Myth 2: If I have a job offer, I can get my OPT faster
Myth 3: It’s better to apply for OPT later so that I can have more time to find a job
Myth 4: If I don’t have a full-time salaried job within three months of graduation, I will get kicked out of the US. This myth explains in detail the "90-days of unemployment" rule.

As of this week, our blog has 5,000 hits and our Twitter has 1,000 followers!

Share with your friends, and enjoy the rest of your semester!
