OISS introduces new Tax Advising walk-in hours

Posted By: Ravi Ammigan    Published: Wednesday, 28 Sep 2011

We are pleased to announce Tax Advising Walk-In Hours at OISS! Starting today, Wednesday September 28th, clinicians from the Michigan State University College of Law Tax Clinic will be present to answer questions and offer one-on-one advising on tax-related issues. You may consult with clinicians in Room 6 of the International Center between 1pm and 3pm each Wednesday for the remainder of the Fall 2011 semester.

The MSU College of Law’s Tax Clinic offers tax-related legal services and counseling to English-as-a-second-language taxpayers about their rights and responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code. In this program, second and third-year law students provide legal assistance to their clients under the supervision of Michigan licensed attorneys. ESL taxpayers do not need to meet an income requirement to counsel with student attorneys at the Clinic. The Tax Clinic also is a certifying acceptance agent (on an appointment basis only) for those who need Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs), which can be used in certain circumstances by people who are otherwise not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN).
