The OISS Internship Program

Communications Internship

The OISS Communications Intern will assist with the development, maintenance, and promotion of content for the OISS website and social networks with particular attention on multimedia web content. The ideal candidate is a strong writer who multitasks and tells great stories and who is also passionate about international students’ issues.

The intern will gain experience working in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams and develop skills in digital marketing communications. The intern will also gain a close look at the profession of international student and scholar services with a particular emphasis on communications, outreach, and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Create, coordinate, and schedule content for social media platforms and website.
  • Provide communications support to OISS through several media types and tasks related to content creation, management, and both professional as well as creative writing.
  • Learn about basic immigration and regulatory advising for international students and transfer the knowledge to easy-to-understand content (for example video or infographics, etc)
  • Support administrative tasks as needed including tending to the front desk.

Required Qualifications

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate/graduate student at MSU for the duration of the internship
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Coursework completed in Communications, Journalism, Professional Writing, or Public Relations
  • Strong ability to take initiative, multi-task, work independently, and manage deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity using various social media platforms and tools (For example, Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, WordPress, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Show a commitment to leadership and engagement within student groups and the community.
  • Bonus skills: Video production, photography and event planning.

Commitment

  • May 2015 -May 2016 (Ability for one academic year is required)
  • 10-15hours per week
