Martin Luther King, Jr. is a civil rights icon and hero to many Americans. He led the fight for racial equality in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Monday, January 15 is a national holiday to commemorate his life and the continued fight for equal access to opportunities for people of color.

Classes are cancelled but the university will be open. Several events will be held to celebrate the holiday and students are encouraged to attend. The calendar of events are listed below.

MLK Leadership Student Conference: Saturday, January 13. The purpose of the Student Leadership Conference is to develop the leadership potential of current students, to provide a platform to elevate student voices, to demonstrate the value of diaglogue across difference, & to facilitate the building of inclusive communities. March for Justice: Monday, January 15. Join the March Captains, members of the Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. as they lead a symbolic march for social justice. Participants are encouraged to bring signs that represent issues they are passionate about. Learn more and register at www.msuinclusion.wufoo.com.

MLK Community Dinner: Monday, January 15. Register for this annual dinner in the Hubbard Hall dining room. Join others in the community to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King while dining on a buffet and experiencing a wonderful program in his honor. Reservations can be made at www.docs.google.com.

MLK Service Project & Community Partners Fair: Date TBA. Participate in hands-on service learning projects and meet area partners and learn how to help and support the community. Learn more about service learning at www.servicelearning.msu.edu.

MSU Museum Social Justice Exhibit & Student Performance: Date TBA. "War and Speech:  Propaganda, Patriotism, Dissent in the Great War" Exhibit. Student Social Justice Artistic Performance.
