Fall Housing Fair

Date: Wednesday, 11 Oct 2017 Time: 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Location: MSU Union Ballroom, 2nd Floor

Description

Don't rush into a decision about where to live next academic year. Take time to explore your on-campus and off-campus options and to think about your vision and expectations for your overall college experience.

Apartment complexes are beginning to advertise special deals for students who sign contracts to live off-campus next year. You may start to feel like you have to quickly to decide where to live. You don't! There are plenty of on-campus and off-campus housing options to meet your needs and expectations.

Deciding where to live next year is an important decision that you need to make based on many things like:

  • your vision or expectations for your overall college experience
  • your academic needs and goals
  • your level of desire to experience other cultures and make friends with people who are different from you
  • distance from campus and classes
  • proximity to CATA bus routes
  • school district, if you have children
  • feeling of community
  • safety
  • costs and expenses

For many people, deciding where to live is also an emotional experience. If you are feeling lonely or homesick, you might think that living with close friends off-campus would be better. If you are feeling adventurous, you might think that living in a totally new neighborhood or residence hall with a new roommate would be fun. Remember that emotions are temporary. If you are new to the U.S. know that cultural adaptation and transition is a long process. The way you are feeling about living in the U.S. today will not be the way you feel about it in a month, six months, or a year from now. More than likely as time passes, you will feel better and better about your life in the U.S. and be more willing to take on challenges that seem so difficult right now.

Before deciding to live-on campus or off-campus take some time to think about your goals and your vision of college life in the U.S. Then, choose a housing option that will help you to reach your goals and vision.
