- James Dorsett - Director
James Dorsett is the director at OISS. James has master's degrees in Soviet History and in Higher Education from Indiana University and an undergraduate degree in History from Baylor University. Before coming to MSU, James served as the director of the International Students and Scholars Office at Iowa State University, where he was also the interim dean of students for 2011-2012. Before Iowa State, James served as the director of the Office of International Students and Scholars at Wayne State University after working at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He has held national leadership positions in NAFSA: Association of International Educators, including chair of the Knowledge Community for International Student and Scholar Services, member of the Leadership Development Committee, dean of the Management Basics Professional Development Workshop, and lead writer for the F-1 Student Advising for Beginners Workshop. James has also served as chair and regulatory ombudsperson for NAFSA Region V. James' first international experience was as an exchange student to The Netherlands after high school. He went on later to work in Germany while in the U.S. Army. James' final extensive overseas experience was in Russia where he spent a year studying how a Russian university was adjusting following the fall of the Soviet Union. The best thing about his job is learning more about the lives of the MSU international students and scholars and how to help them.

- Brooke H.M. Stokdyk - Assistant Director
Brooke H.M. Stokdyk is an Assistant Director at the OISS. Brooke hails from Indiana University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Germanic Studies and a Master of Science in Student Affairs Administration. She also spent three and a half years working with international students and scholars at Indiana University before starting her career at MSU in 2005. Brooke works with mainly J-1 and F-1 regulatory issues, and is the coordinator of the J-1 program. She also works extensively with health insurance / health care advising and education and acts as a liaison for a number of federal and state government agencies. She has spent time in Germany and a few other European countries, and hopes to travel in the future with her husband and two young, vibrant, energetic, stubborn, clever, exhausting, loving children.
- Nancy Rademacher - Office Manager/SEVIS Coordinator
Nancy Rademacher is the SEVIS Coordinator at OISS. Herfunctions include office management, SEVIS reporting, computer technical support, knowledge of university policies and procedures, and immigration regulations. Nancy lived in Okinawa for more than two years while growing up and has visited Hong Kong. Although her responsibilities keep her away from the reception area for the most part, she truly enjoys the opportunity to help international students and scholars. Nancy has worked at MSU since 1980, and has been at OISS since 1987. She is an avid sports fan and supports MSU teams. Go Green!
Chris Bargerstock is Associate Director at OISS. She completed her B.S. degree in Social Science at Michigan State University and her M.P.A. (Masters of Public Administration) from Wayne State University. Chris works with faculty and staff to processes H1-B petitions for MSU. Chris has 3 wonderful children with whom she spends her free time away from the office. Chris has lived in Michigan all her life. According to Chris, "OISS is unique because working in OISS brings the world to me."
Elizabeth Matthews is an Assistant Director at OISS. Liz earned her bachelor's degree in English with a Specialization in Dance from Michigan State University and a master's degree in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago. Prior professional positions include working as Associate Director of the International Office at Northwestern University and Director of the International Center at Illinois Institute of Technology. In addition, Liz has served as the Chair of International Educators of Illinois, International Student and Scholar Services representative for NAFSA Region V, and currently serves the organization as Regulatory Ombudsperson for student issues. She has presented and coordinated numerous workshops and sessions at the regional and national levels of NAFSA: Association of International Educators. A product of the "Study Abroad" culture at MSU, her travels have taken her to many countries including Ireland, Italy, Costa Rica, Nepal, and Singapore. Most recently she participated in the 2012 Baden-Württemberg Seminar in Tübingen, Germany. Always a Spartan, Liz is very happy to be serving her alma mater through her work at OISS.
- Ismail Adawe - International Student Advisor
Ismail Adawe is an International Student Advisor serving F-1 students. Growing up in both Africa and North America, he became fascinated with other cultures early on. Ismail went on to earn his undergraduate education at Northwood University (B.A. International Business and Management) and graduate education at Central Michigan University (M.S. International Administration). Prior to joining OISS, Ismail worked with the International Neurologic and Psychiatric Epidemiology Program (INPEP) and the Institute of International Health (IIH) at Michigan State University. Ismail lived and studied in several African and Middle Eastern countries and worked in Sub-Saharan Africa. He is passionate about assisting international students and about the internalization of Michigan State University. Ismail enjoys learning about the world not only by traveling, but by getting to know the unique and wonderful international students here at Michigan State University.
- Amber Cordell - Educational Programs Manager
Amber Cordell is the Educational Programs Manager at the OISS. She serves as Orientation Coordinator for new international students and organizes cultural and student leadership programs throughout the year. She also facilitates intercultural communication workshops for students, staff, faculty and the community. She serves on the national NAFSA leadership team as the Campus and Community Programming Network Leader. Originally from Mississippi, Amber graduated from Shorter College with degrees in psychology and religion. She also holds a MA in religion, with emphasis on Japanese Buddhism, from Wake Forest University. Amber taught English in Japan for three years through the JET Program and worked with international students and scholars for two years at the University of Kansas Medical Center before moving to East Lansing.
- Bristol Day - International Student Advisor/ Front Desk Supervisor
Bristol Day is an F-1 student advisor and front desk supervisor. Bristol is originally from Detroit and earned her Bachelor's degree from Kalamazoo College in Sociology and Anthropology and her Master's degree from Michigan State University in Student Affairs Administration. She has previously worked at MSU as a Community Director in Residence Education and Housing Services and as an AdviseMI Program Director at the Michigan College Access Network, a nonprofit in Lansing. Bristol has studied abroad in India, Scotland, and England and has spent time in Shanghai and Beijing, China.
- Takashi Iwasaki - International Student and Scholar Advisor
Takashi Iwasaki is a J-1 student and scholar advisor. A Yokohama native, Takashi earned his bachelor's degree from Waseda University in Tokyo. In 2007, Takashi completed a master's degree in statistics/sociology at the Pennsylvania State University. While at Panasonic, Takashi was responsible for the promotion of electronic products to European countries. With AIG, Takashi develops new insurance products/policies, which requires extensive knowledge of commercial property insurance underwriting. At the University of Kentucky, he supported the College's international strategies and initiatives and actively engaged in all international and domestic student recruitment and retention efforts. Takashi has traveled extensively within Asia. His travels have also taken him to numerous locations in North America, including such diverse destinations as Cancun, Mexico and Ontario, Canada to rural eastern Kentucky.
- Leehoor Ly - International Student Advisor/ Front Desk Supervisor
Leehoor Ly serves is an F-1 student advisor and works with ISEA Award and International Student Group Funding. Leehoor emigrated from Canada in 2001 and she has called Michigan her home ever since. She earned her undergraduate education at Michigan State University (B.A. Pre-Law Humanities). Leehoor speaks English, Khmer, French and a basic Thai. She would love to travel outside of North American someday to taste cuisines from all around the world.
- Takhmina Maralbaeva - International Student and Scholar Advisor
Takhmina Maralbaeva is an International Student and Scholar Advisor. She was born and raised in Kyrgyzstan and speaks fluent Russian and basic Kyrgyz. Takhmina studied at Grand Valley State University as a recipient of the Edmund Muskie Fellowship and graduated with a master's degree in Public Administration. She believes that her former experience of being an international student will help her succeed in working with the international community at MSU. Takhmina works mainly with J-1 scholars and students and assists with the International Sponsored Student Program.
- Nicole Namy - International Sponsored Student Advisor
Nicole Namy is the International Sponsored Student Advisor at OISS. She graduated from MSU with degrees in English/Education. She has worked in East Lansing within the field of special education and prior in the Detroit area administering youth programming for a community center and area schools. Nicole was born in Lebanon, is fluent in Arabic and has a flare for yummy Lebanese cooking! She also has a great passion for traveling and is excited to work with international sponsored students at Michigan State University.
- Jessica Scott-Nehls - International Student and Scholar Advisor
Jessica Scott-Nehls is an International Student and Scholar Advisor at OISS. Originally from northern Michigan, Jessica graduated from Kalamazoo College with degrees in Spanish Language Literature and International Studies with a focus on Latin America. She lived and studied in Argentina for a year as an exchange student and later studied abroad in Chile. Her interest in international education and immigration-related matters stems from her travels and previous work experience. Prior to joining OISS, she worked for two years with the migrant education program in northeast Colorado and later spent two years working with an immigration law firm in Boston. Jessica is thrilled to be a member of the OISS team and to work with the international community of Michigan State University.
- Joy Shantz - International Student Advisor/Community Outreach Coordinator
Joy Shantz is an International Student Advisor and Community Outreach Coordinator at OISS. She spent her childhood in the jungles of Bangladesh and attended high school on an island in Malaysia before coming to Michigan State University to earn her BA in Journalism and International Relations. Her experiences growing up as a "third culture kid" have instilled in her the idea that the world is a big place made much easier to understand through the valuable help of intercultural communication, education and outreach. Joy worked at the Grameen Foundation in Washington, D.C. and the Office of Study Abroad at MSU before joining the OISS team. She is passionate about getting international students off campus and engaged in the Greater Lansing community and loves finding the hidden spots around town that make Lansing great.
- Hersh Sisodia - International Student Advisor
Hersh Sisodia is an international student advisor at Michigan State University. He leads the F-1 immigration team. Hersh has a background in communication, usability, and technology implementation. He holds a B.A. in Communication and a M.A. in Educational Technology from Michigan State University. His graduate studies at MSU focused on incorporating technology into pedagogy and other environments. He is always looking at creative ways to utilize technologies to communicate with and educate the international population. He has lived abroad for 10 years, speaks several Indic languages, and has studied Russian and Spanish. Hersh is a frequent presenter of sessions and workshops at NAFSA on topics of immigration and technology. He also trains MSU campus and community on intercultural communication, and has previsously trained on diversity and inclusion.
- Neringa Tuyilingire - International Student and Scholar Advisor
Neringa Tuyilingire is an International Student and Scholar Advisor at OISS. She was born and raised in Lithuania, and came to the U.S. in 1999 to pursue a college education. Neringa graduated from MSU's James Madison College with degree in International Relations. Prior to MSU, she spent two years working with international scholars at Rutgers University. Neringa has traveled to several European countries during her undergraduate studies, and studied abroad in Brussels, Belgium. Her diverse personal and professional background has greatly contributed to her interest in the field of international education. Neringa works with international scholars on H-1B and J visas. She is very excited to be part of OISS and would like to be of as much assistance as she can to the international students and scholars at MSU.
- Xiaoyu "Skyin" Yin - International Student Advisor/Communications and Experiential Learning Coordinator
Xiaoyu "Skyin" Yin is an International Student Advisor, and Communications and Experiential Learning Coordinator at OISS. A native of China, she comes to us with a master's degree in Advertising from MSU. She will help OISS use the most up to date communication strategies to reach nearly 9,000 international visitors each year and strengthen our working relations with Career Services.
- Krista Smith - Office Assistant
Krista Smith is the Office Assistant at OISS. She joined our office in December 2002 and thrives on the fast paced environment here. She processes I-20s for F-1 students. Krista has worked at MSU since August 2000 and is an avid MSU sports fan. In her spare time she loves to shoot photos.
